Q: What is Blue (2% Lanthanated) Tungsten best used for?

A: This is the ultimate choice for DC Welding. It offers excellent ignition and restart properties, making it perfect for:
Stainless Steel
Carbon Steel
Titanium
Copper & Nickel Alloys
It is widely considered the best non-radioactive replacement for Red (Thoriated) tungsten.

Q: Is this tungsten radioactive?

A: No. Unlike Red (Thoriated) tungsten, Blue (Lanthanated) is non-radioactive. This makes it safer to handle and safer to grind, as you do not have to worry about inhaling radioactive dust particles.

Q: Can I use this for Aluminum (AC Welding)?

A: While this product is optimized for DC performance, 2% Lanthanated is known as a versatile "all-rounder" that works well on modern AC Inverter machines. However, it is designed to hold a sharp point, so it will not form a "ball" at the tip as easily as Green (Pure) tungsten.
Sizing (1/8" Diameter)

Q: Is 1/8-inch the right size for my project?

A: The 1/8" size is a heavy-duty electrode.
Recommended Amperage: Generally used for 100 Amps up to 220+ Amps.
Best For: Thick plate (1/4" or thicker), structural steel, and heavy pipe welding.
Warning: If you are welding thin auto body sheet metal or exhaust tubing, this 1/8" tungsten may be too large and cause the arc to wander. We recommend 1/16" or 3/32" for thin work.

Q: How should I prepare the tip?

A: For DC welding (Steel/Stainless), you should grind the tip to a sharp, long point (taper). Ideally, grind the tungsten lengthwise (parallel to the rod) to ensure a stable, focused arc.

Q: Does this tungsten burn up quickly?

A: No. Our 2% Lanthanated formula is manufactured to AWS A5.12M standards to have excellent thermal shock resistance. It has a low burn-off rate, meaning it keeps its sharp geometry longer than standard tungsten, reducing the number of times you have to stop and walk to the grinder.

Q: Will these fit my TIG Torch?

A: Yes, provided your torch is set up for 1/8" electrodes. You must ensure you have the corresponding 1/8" Collet and Collet Body installed in your torch (WP-17, WP-26, or WP-18 are common torches that accept this size).
