Premium Quality Material: Copper-coated carbon steel filler rod classified as ER70S-6, suitable for TIG welding mild and low-alloy steels.

Optimal Deoxidizers: Contains high levels of manganese and silicon to enhance weld strength, improve mechanical properties, and minimize porosity.

Versatile Applications: Ideal for general shop use, including construction, farm equipment, tanks, truck bodies, and applications with poor fit-up or minor surface contaminants.

Smooth Weld Finish: Designed to produce a stable arc and smooth, aesthetically pleasing weld beads with minimal spatter, reducing the need for post-weld cleanup.

Standard Specifications: Each rod is 3/32" (2.4mm) in diameter and 16" (406.4mm) long, conveniently packaged in a 5-pound box for professional and hobby use.

Q: Is 3/32" the right size for my project?

A: This is the most versatile filler rod size available.
Best For: Materials ranging from 1/16" (1.6mm) up to 1/4" (6mm) thick.
Perfect Match: It pairs perfectly with 3/32" tungsten electrodes.
Typical Jobs: Roll cages, chassis fabrication, square tubing structures, and general bracketry.

Q: What is the difference between ER70S-6 and ER70S-2?

A: ER70S-6 is the preferred choice for general shop use.
ER70S-6 (This Product): Has higher Manganese and Silicon. These ingredients act as "cleaning agents," allowing the puddle to flow smoothly even on metal with light rust or mill scale.
ER70S-2: Is used for perfectly clean, medical/aerospace grade steel.
Verdict: If your metal isn't perfectly shiny or if you want a smoother bead profile, use ER70S-6.

Q: Can I use this on 4130 Chromoly?

A: Yes. ER70S-6 is widely accepted in the motorsports industry for TIG welding 4130 Chromoly tubing and plate (provided the part will not be heat-treated after welding). It provides excellent ductility to prevent cracking.
Welding Performance & Technique

Q: Why are there little "glassy" spots on my finished weld?

A: Do not worry—that is a good sign!
What is it? Those are Silica Islands. The silicon in the rod grabs impurities from the steel and floats them to the surface, forming tiny glass-like beads.
Solution: This means the weld metal underneath is clean. Simply wire brush or chip them off after the weld cools.

Q: What gas is required?

A: You must use 100% Argon.
Note: Do not use MIG gas (C25/Argon-CO2 mix) or Tri-Mix. These will oxidize your tungsten and cause porous, dirty welds.

Q: Can I use this rod for Oxy-Acetylene welding?

A: Yes! ER70S-6 works very well for gas welding because the high deoxidizer content helps neutralize the impurities introduced by the flame.
Material Compatibility

Q: Can I weld Stainless Steel or Aluminum with this?

A: No.
For Stainless: You need ER308L rod. Using this Carbon Steel rod on Stainless will cause the weld to rust instantly.
For Aluminum: You need ER4043 or ER5356 rod. Carbon steel rod will not fuse with Aluminum.

Q: Why are the rods copper coated?

A: The copper coating protects the steel rod from rusting while it sits in your toolbox. It also helps conduct electricity better if the rod accidentally touches the tungsten or the work clamp.
