1, Premium ER308L Filler Metal for TIG welding processes on stainless steel grades like 304, 304L, 308, and 308L.

2, Low Carbon Content (0.03% maximum) enhances weld metal resistance to intergranular corrosion for longevity.

3, Versatile Usage in general-purpose applications including petrochemical, food processing machinery, and medical equipment.

4, Optimal Performance when paired with 100% Argon or Argon/Helium shielding gas for improved penetration and speed.

5, Standard Size and Weight: 3/32" diameter and 16" length rods, packaged conveniently as 5 LB bulk

Q: Is 3/32" the right size for my project?

A: This is the most versatile size for stainless fabrication.
Best For: Materials ranging from 1/16" (1.6mm) up to 1/4" (6mm) thick.
Perfect Match: It works perfectly with standard 3/32" tungsten electrodes.
Typical Jobs: Stainless exhaust piping, brewery tanks, angle iron frames, and heavy wall tubing.

Q: What metals can I weld with this?

A: This rod is the industry standard for the 300-Series Stainless family.
Compatible: 304, 304L, 308, 308L, 321, and 347.
Not Compatible: Do not use this to weld Mild Steel to Stainless (use ER309L) or for 316 Marine Grade Stainless (use ER316L).

Q: What does the "L" in ER308L stand for?

A: "L" stands for Low Carbon (0.03% max).
Why it matters: It prevents "Carbide Precipitation," which is a form of internal rusting that happens when stainless is heated. Using "L" grade rod ensures your weld remains corrosion-resistant and durable, even in harsh environments.

Q: Why is the back of my weld turning black and rocky?

A: This is called "Sugaring" (Oxidation). It is not a defect in the rod.
Cause: Hot stainless steel reacts instantly with oxygen.
Solution: You must "Back Purge" the weld (fill the inside of the pipe or tank with Argon gas) or use Solar Flux on the backside to shield it from air.

Q: Why is my stainless weld slightly magnetic?

A: This is completely normal!
The Science: While the base metal (304) is non-magnetic, ER308L filler contains a small amount of Ferrite crystal structure. This is intentional—it prevents hot-cracking during cooling. A slight magnetic pull confirms you have a strong, crack-resistant weld.

Q: Can I use this for "Food Safe" applications?

A: Yes. ER308L is the standard filler for food and beverage equipment.
Note: The weld must be fully penetrated, smooth, and typically polished/passivated after welding to ensure no bacteria can get trapped in the ripples.

Q: What shielding gas do I need?

A: You must use 100% Argon.
Warning: Do not use C25 (MIG Mix) or CO2. Even trace amounts of CO2 will ruin the stainless properties and turn the weld black.

Q: How should I clean the metal before welding?

A: Cleanliness is critical for stainless.
Wipe with Acetone to remove oil/grease.
Use a Stainless Steel Wire Brush that has never touched carbon steel.
Warning: If you use a brush that touched rusty steel, you will embed iron particles into the stainless, causing your "rust-proof" weld to rust later.
