Premium 1/16" X 16" Aluminum Filler Rod: High-quality ER4043 alloy provides reliable performance for TIG welding aluminum sheets, plates, and tubes.
Optimal 5% Silicon Composition: Features 5% silicon (AlSi5) for superior fluidity during welding, resulting in smooth, brighter, and less crack-sensitive weld deposits.
Versatile Metal Compatibility: Ideal for welding common aluminum grades including 3003, 5052, 6061, 6063, and various forge and casting alloys like 356 and 43.
Excellent Heat Resistance: High silicon content ensures strong resistance to thermal cracking and is suitable for base metals that require subsequent heat treatments.
Easy TIG Application: Use with 100% Argon, Helium, or a mix as the shielding gas to achieve a smooth weld seam, making the process straightforward for general purpose fabrication.

Q: Is 1/16-inch the right size for my project?

A: This is a Precision filler rod.
Best For: Thin aluminum sheet, radiators, intercooler piping, and tanks ranging from 1/16" (1.6mm) up to 3/32" (2.4mm) thick.
Benefit: It melts instantly with low heat, preventing you from blowing holes in thin base metal.
Note: If you are welding heavy plate (1/8" or thicker), this rod is too small. You will struggle to feed enough metal to fill the joint. Switch to 3/32" or 1/8" rod.

Q: Why is this rod so soft/flexible?

A: ER4043 is naturally softer than other alloys (like 5356). Combined with the thin 1/16" diameter, it can feel very flexible.
Tip: Hold the rod closer to the tip (choke up on it) to maintain control while feeding. If you need a stiffer rod for feeding purposes, ER5356 is an alternative, though it flows differently.

Q: Can I anodize parts welded with this?

A: No.
ER4043 contains 5% Silicon. When anodized, the silicon turns the weld bead Dark Gray or Black, creating a color mismatch with the base metal.
If you plan to anodize the part (e.g., car trim, bike parts), use ER5356 filler rod instead.
Alloy Compatibility

Q: What aluminum grades can I weld with this?

A: ER4043 is the "Universal" filler for:
6000 Series: 6061, 6063 (Tubing, Angle Iron, Sheet).
3000 Series: 3003, 3004 (Diamond Plate, Tanks).
Castings: 356.0, A356.0 (Engine blocks, Housings).
Warning: Do not use on 5000-series Magnesium-Aluminum alloys (like 5086 boat hulls), as the weld strength will be lower. Use ER5356 for those.

Q: Why choose ER4043 over ER5356?

A: Choose ER4043 for Fluidity and Crack Resistance.
It flows ("wets out") smoother than 5356.
It is less likely to crack when welding 6061 aluminum.
It produces a shinier, brighter weld bead.

Q: What machine settings do I need?

Process: AC TIG (Alternating Current) is required.
Gas: 100% Argon.
Cleaning: Aluminum forms an invisible oxide layer. You must brush the weld area with a dedicated Stainless Steel brush just before welding. We also recommend wiping this filler rod with Acetone to remove any surface contaminants before use.

Q: Can I use this for Oxy-Acetylene or Propane welding?

A: No. This rod is designed for TIG welding with Argon shielding. Using it with a gas torch will result in oxidation and a brittle, dirty weld that will likely fail.
