Optimal Deoxidizers: Contains high Manganese and Silicon levels for superior deoxidation, ensuring clean welds on mild and low alloy steel.

Smooth Weld Finish: Achieves a smooth, uniform bead appearance with minimal spatter when used with 100% Argon shielding gas.

Versatile Applications: Ideal for various jobs including farm implement repair, general shop tasks, tanks, and structural mild steel fabrication.

Enhanced Mechanical Properties: Moderate carbon content paired with Mn/Si boosts weld strength, toughness, and resistance to cracking.

Standard Specifications: Package contains 5 pounds of ER70S-6 TIG filler rods, each measuring 1/16" in diameter and 16" in length.

Q: Is 1/16-inch the right size for my project?

A: This is a Precision filler rod.
Best For: Thin materials ranging from 20-gauge up to 1/8" (3mm) thick. It is the perfect size for roll cage tubing, exhaust systems, and auto body sheet metal.
Too Small For: If you are welding heavy plate (3/16" or thicker), this rod will melt too fast. You should

Q: What is the difference between ER70S-6 and ER70S-2?

A: ER70S-6 is generally preferred for everyday fabrication.
ER70S-6 (This Product): Contains higher levels of Silicon and Manganese. These "cleaners" allow the puddle to flow smoother (wet out) and handle light rust or mill scale better than S-2.
ER70S-2: Is a lower-silicon rod often used for critical x-ray welds on perfectly clean metal.

Q: Can I use this on 4130 Chromoly tubing?

A: Yes. ER70S-6 is the industry standard filler for TIG welding 4130 Chromoly in motorsports (drag racing/off-road) for applications that will not be heat-treated after welding. Its ductility prevents cracking in the rigid chromoly structure.

Q: What gas do I need?

A: You must use 100% Argon.
Do not use C25 (75/25) MIG gas, as the CO2 will oxidize the tungsten electrode and ruin the weld.
Q: Can I use this for Oxy-Acetylene gas welding?

Q: Can I use this for Oxy-Acetylene gas welding?

A: Yes! ER70S-6 is an excellent choice for gas welding mild steel because the deoxidizers help combat the impurities introduced by the flame, resulting in a strong, non-porous weld.

Q: Will this weld Stainless Steel?

A: No. This is a Carbon Steel rod.
Welding Stainless Steel with this rod will cause the weld seam to rust. Please use ER308L filler rod for stainless applications.

Q: Why are the rods copper coated?

A: The copper coating serves two purposes:
Conductivity: It ensures a smooth electrical transfer if the rod touches the grounded workpiece.
Preservation: It protects the steel core from rusting while stored in your shop.

Q: How should I store the leftover rods?

A: Moisture is the enemy. Keep the box closed and store it in a dry area. If you live in a humid climate, we recommend storing open packs in a sealed PVC tube or a rod guard container to prevent surface rust.
